Wind Damage
Storm damage caused by wind can occur with gusts as little as 15-20 MPH. Once the seal on the tar strip between the shingles is compromised, leaks will occur. The wind will lift the shingles allowing rainwater to back up under the shingles and soak through the decking into your home. This not only causes water damage inside your home, but it will also rot the decking on your roof and possibly create a mold issue in your home.
Hail Damage
Storm damage caused by hail can come from hail stones as small as 1″. Initially you will see granules on the ground around your home or in your gutters. When hail stones strike your roof, it bruises the shingle and causes the granules to break loose. Over the next 1-2 years, hail hits will loosen all granules, heat up in the sun, melt the tar away, and leave exposed laminate to become brittle and crack. This is where interior leaks can occur.
Tree Damage
Tree damage to roofs generally occur in one of two ways:
1. Branches or Trees Falling on the Roof
The most common cause of tree damage to a roof is because of wind or a storm breaking branches that hang above or near the roof line. This type of damage occurs quickly and depending on the size of the branch, can cause huge problems for the homeowner.
2. Untrimmed Tree Grows into The Roof Over Time
If left untrimmed and unchecked, trees growing near your home can become a problem over time. Tree limbs or tree trunks can slowly grow into or even through your roof, causing damage slowly over several years.
Tree damage is a costly disaster. According to the Washington Post, just removing a tree from a roof could cost up to $10,000. When you are dealing with expensive repairs like that, you need to spend your money where it counts. Count on Roofing Staff to get your roof repaired for good.
